Windrose Farm

Where ponies are family.

Pony List

Varni’s Beauty (Eden’s Oak X Kerr’s June Bride) X Welmore Shining Dian (Liseter Bright Sun X Welmore Flashlight)

29 year old, 12.2 hand, black, Section A Welsh Mare

Gwen was acquired through a trade as the family needed something for the children to ride (a long time ago).  Even though she is considered a senior pony, you wouldn’t know it by riding her.  This mare is still full of vigor and loves to jump 2’ fences and run around the ring to let you “fly”.  She is the mount of choice for the adventurous souls that come to visit the farm, but also can be a calm ride occasionally, if desired.  For years Gwen was a Pony Club mount and excelled at the Cross Country and Stadium phases.  She is lacking a bit in the tooth department, but still manages to keep her weight without much help.  Gwen is also the dam of several of our athletic mares and geldings here on the farm.  NOTE: Gwen is looking for a home, we will offer her as a feed lease only!  Email for info.

Bristol Bardd (Coed Coch Prydydd X Coed Coch Swynan) X Bristol Lola Falana (Glannant Tango X Red Monarch’s Lola)

25 year old, 12. 3 hand, grey, Section B Welsh Gelding

Even at a mature age, Cola is still going strong.  Though he doesn’t get taken out and shown as much as he used to, he can still be counted on when he’s needed.  He has been the only pony allowed and used for Round Robin showmanship the last several years at a local show as he is almost unflappable with all the things that go on at a fair.

Windrose Cola

Carousel’s Mor-Forwyn Gwen
Windrose Coaster

Bristol Bardd X Carousel’s Mor-Forwyn Gwen

17 year old, 14 hand, blue roan Section B Welsh Gelding

Coaster was Melissa’s first dressage pony.  He was born here on the farm and was completely trained on the farm as well.  He accomplished something only dreams are made of...He was shown  up to 4th level dressage successfully and won many, many dressage  awards in the process.  He also took Melissa to the California Dressage Society’s Junior Championships twice, at 2nd and 3rd level.  Unfortunately, during a clinic with Guenter Seidel, and while preparing to show at Prix St. George level, Coaster sustained a fetlock injury and was sidelined for a year to recuperate.   Coaster is now back in work, but has now expanded to a hunter pony and is jumping 3’ jumps as well as competing on the open circuit with his new rider DJ.  He is still able to do dressage like he used to, but his new rider wants to do hunters, so that is what he does!

Update-Coaster has been sold to a wonderful family where he is the best friend of a 10 year old girl and is teaching her to jump! We wish Coaster and Abigail only the best!

Windrose Sir Harold

Bristol Bardd X Bristol Lola Falana

9 year old, 12.3 3/4 hand, grey Section B Welsh Gelding

Harry has always been a farm favorite.  He is constantly trying to find ways to make you laugh and enjoy life.  He also is a wonderful hard working pony that loves to get out and show off.  He has been shown in open and welsh shows and won several times both on the flat and over fences.  He will make a wonderful child’s mount for the child that wants to do everything.  His full brother, Windrose Coby, has earned more titles than I could list here (Halter, Western, English, Hunters, Trail, Driving), was Pony of the Year in 2000 and has recently received his Legion of Merit.  Coby and Harry are so much alike, and Harry will be able to accomplish everything his brother has with just a bit more finishing.   He is offered sale to a very special home.  Video 1 : Harry schooling at home Video 2: Harry’s first show over fences (from 2003!)

Windrose Sir Thomas

Bristol Bardd X Carousel’s Mor-Forwyn Gwen

9 year old, 12.3-13 hand, Bay Section B Welsh Gelding

Tom has a very noticeable color, being a creamy off-white on his belly and an almost black dorsal stripe.  Unfortunately he had a major case of Strangles as a foal and due to a high fever, he has heat lines down both front feet.   Due to this he was started late (as a 6 year old), but he learns so quickly, you’d never know it. Since that time he has also been completely sound.   He is a wonderfully hard worker and focuses on the job at hand every time.  He has competed against the big boys (literally, he was by far the smallest in the class) at 2 open shows to date and a Welsh show, and has made an impressive showing, garnishing a few firsts in just a couple classes each time. Tom does an awesome flat class, but is also a cute hunter. Ready for a kid that wants to enjoy life on the back of a pony!   Tom is offered for sale to the perfect home.

Windrose Lady Contessa

Bristol Bardd X Carousel’s Mor-Forwyn Gwen

7 year old, 13.1 hand, blue roan, Section B Welsh Mare

Tessa has just been started under saddle and boy this girl will go far.  She is even more athletic than her brother, Coaster, and will be a sport pony deluxe (dressage or hunter).  Tessa knows how to move every inch of her body in the best possible way.  She plays with and beats up the boys without even trying (in play only).  She also is a CUTE welsh pony mare and would be a wonderful addition to the broodmare band.  If you want a pony that will keep up with your dreams, this is the one, she is not, and probably never will be a babysitter.

Congratulations to Diane Herger of Glynmagic Welsh in PA! Tessa will be put under saddle and also do double duty as a broodmare. We are very excited Diane thought so much of our farm to purchase Tessa to add to her already wonderful breeding program!

Quillane Gretchen

Coblynau Carmarthen (Derwin Reality X Dyfnog Valiant Vixe) X Fair Tegolin of Penrhyn (Dafydd Brenin Cymraeg X Nebo Fair Lady)

6 year old, 15.2 hand, chestnut, Section D Welsh Mare

Gretchen is the first cob mare we have purchased to compliment our stallion, Trystan.  She has a wonderful pony head and extremely ample hindquarters.   Gretchen is Lisa’s mount and has shown in the green classes in 4-H and is winning the year end high point award for that level.  Watch for her at the upcoming welsh shows!  Video-Gretchen at her first CT (eventing)!

ME Imagine

Tuscani Aramis X Crossroad’s Chocolate Chip

5 year old, 15 hand, chestnut, Section D Welsh Gelding

Matteo is our newest acquisition, arriving early April ‘04.  We traded one of our Section B mares for him as we needed a future mount for our mom. DJ is currently training him under saddle as her future eventing mount and our mom's future trail mount! Watch for him at the lower levels of eventing in 2006.

Tainted Alliance

Register Pinto Mare (based on color)-Unknown Parentage

9 year old, 15.1 hand, chestnut overo

Allie is Rebecca’s personal mount, and though she thought about selling her several times, this match was just meant to be.  Allie came to us as an unwanted 2 year old with several problems and now has a huge fan list, it seems she adds new admirers every time she leaves home!  She has shown English and Western and garnered several titles.  She is also the mount of choice for visitors to the farm and is commonly used for college equestrian team shows (IHSA).  She has also trained and conditioned for Trail Trials and Endurance. Please click on Allie's picture to see her personal page! Video-Allie's home video!

UPDATE-Through an unfortunate turn of events, Allie lost her foal (by Trystan) at birth and also suffered a complete vaginal-rectal tear that we are now treating. Please check back for updates!

Tina

10 year old, 14.1 hand, brown/chestnut, Grade Arab X Mare

Tina was bought by us at an auction.   Unfortunately, people were using a large breeding operation (over 120 horses) to cover-up their drug business.  When everything was seized by the state, the horses were all sold at auction.  We attended and when Tina came up, only the meat man bid on her...Not wanting any of horses to have a sorry ending, we bid on her and bought her for  meat price (due to the meat buyer being a nice guy and understanding our worry about her possible fate)!.  She came to us completely scared of everything, a kicker (due to having chains wrapped around her hind legs for control), rain rot on her sides and very underweight.  After a few months of quarantine, and a lot of training, she is now a wonderful hunter/jumper and has filled out to a beautiful mare.  She does still have trust issues with new people, but calms down quickly and is more than willing to work for you if you don’t hurt her.  She has a heart of gold and shows it every time you ask her to perform for you.   She has joined with DJ to make a wonderful eventing team. They are currently competing at Novice Level, and hopefully after she has her foal they will go higher! Tina's shows talent for going much higher! Tina was definately a diamond in the rough!
