“Bud”, as he is affectionately known, is from the famed Amberwood Nubians, and he doesn’t let them down.   He is registered and 2 years old.   He is the sweetest, most affectionate buck and will let you rub his nose all day long and scream at you when you stop.  He also sires large, colorful kids.   So far I have sold all his kids as youngsters, so I haven’t had the chance to see what they matured into, but I can tell you that they are doing well, as the owners of his kids have come back for more!  This guy is solid all the way around, it is hard to fault him.

· Merlin is 7/8 Boer and 1/8 Kiko (another meat breed from South Africa).  He too is very sweet, and the baby goats’ favorite climbing toy.     Merlin also loves the babies, so he’s always got a crowd around him at feeding time or when they are laying in the sun, relaxing.  So far Merlin’s babies haven’t let us down in the production department.  They are all producing great, with good sized udders and plenty of milk to feed a set of twins to a healthy weight.   Merlin is not registered and is 3 years old.  We also like to wean kids with Merlin as he puts up with their jumping on him and separates any trouble makers!  If kids are scared of the older does, he will stand between them to allow everyone a chance to eat in peace.  Overall he is a wonderful buck, and one of our favorites EVER!

· Update– We unfortunately lost Merlin in August ‘04 due to possible West Nile Virus.  After 10 days of battling the illness (and around the clock care), we finally decided he would suffer if we let it continue, so we put him down.  We have purchased a new Boer buck that will join our herd in early '05 and can't wait till breeding season to put him to use! Check back for updates and pictures!

Bucks

Merlin

Both bucks were hand raised on a bottle of heat treated colostrum and pasteurized milk.   They are easy for anyone to handle and you can lead them around the farm with no problems.  They also live together except sometimes during breeding season, so that we can get the does bred to the correct buck.  They get along with each other wonderfully as well as all of the does and kids.

Both bucks are available to a limited number of outside does.  Stud fees are $50 each (multiple doe and 4-H discounts available), and boarding is $3/day.  Does must have  a history of vaccination, and be free from soremouth, TB, scrapies, etc.  Any doe with questionable history or signs of illness will be turned away.
